River Plate and Boca Juniors will meet in a unique, historic match like never before. The deciding game of the CONMEBOL Libertadores will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu on the 9th December at 20:30 local time. Both sides have previously been involved in friendly matches at Real Madrid's stadium. River have played there four times whereas Boca only the once.
The last of the two to play at the Bernabéu was River in 2003. They lost 3-1 to a Real Madrid side featuring, amongst others, Zinedine Zidane. It was a friendly in honour of Alfredo Di Stéfano. Lucho González scored the only goal for River.
Boca's sole visit to the Bernabéu was in 1994 for the Copa Iberia: they too lost 3-1. Carlos Mac Allister got on the scoresheet for Boca.
The others matches for River were in 1961 (won 3-2), 1965 (lost 3-1) and in 1973 (another 3-1 defeat).
Both River and Boca played a match at Chamartín, Real Madrid's previous stadium. In 1925, Boca won 1-0, whilst in 1951 River were 4-3 victors also.
