CONMEBOL confirmed that the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro will host the 2020 CONMEBOL Libertadores Final on November 21st, 2020.
The Maracanã has played host to Libertadores Final matches on three previous occasions. In 1963, Santos defeated Boca Juniors 3-2 en route to lifting the title while in 1981 Flamengo defeated Chilean side Corbreloa 2-1. In 2008, Fluminense defeated Liga de Quito 3-1, but fell on penalties as the Ecuadorians lifted the title.
Opened in 1950 ahead of the FIFA World Cup, the Maracanã has played host to host of historical football matches, including the 1989 and 2019 Copa América Finals, and the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final. The stadium also served as host for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympic and Paraolympic Games.
