Delfín had a debut to remember in the CONMEBOL Libertadores: they won 3-0

With two goals from Ordóñez and another from Garcés, the Ecuadorian team were too strong for Nacional de Paraguay in the first leg of the Phase 1 clash.

Two similar methods of playing football can result in a very distinctive outcome. Delfín went with two strikers who know each other well in Roberto Ordóñez and Carlos Garcés. Their captain, Garcés, had one of his best performances and the result wasn't in doubt after an impressive first half display. In the second half the Ecuadorian side made it 3-0 - two goals from Ordóñez and one from Garcés - which hands Delfín a major advantage going into the second leg of the tie in 8 days time.

Delfín were 2-0 up with just 14 minutes on the clock. Nacional de Paraguay were never able to fully recover from their horror start.

During the second half Nacional responded and started to create some chances of their own. Vieyra was at the heart of all their best moments, always looking to create something special. However when he began to tire mistakes crept into his game too. Rojas stoppèd Garcés from making it 3-0 but Delfín were determined to improve their standing and did just that. Ordóñez's quick feet and dribbling skills saw him beat Velázquez before pulling the ball back for Garcés to put an end to Nacional's resistence.

A three goal lead puts Delfín in a very commanding position. There's still the matter of a return leg but Nacional will need a perfect performance to continue in this season's CONMEBOL Libertadores. The winner of this match will face Caracas in Phase 2.
